How much time and money could you save if you could predict how well a group of people will perform as a team BEFORE you put them together on a project?
What if you could accurately predict:
- Who will be the most effective leader?
- What will happen to the team when the pressure is on?
- Are there likely to be interpersonal tensions and if so, where are they most likely to occur?
These and many other scenarios can be accurately anticipated before the team are even introduced.
The process requires measurement of a series of attitudes and traits exhibited by each individual. The most important traits measured for our purposes are the individuals levels of truthfulness, responsibility, accountability, loyalty, self awareness and impression management.
With this information at hand, management can make value judgments about exactly how the team will function in almost any given situation and prepare for it accordingly. The cost saving implications of this are tremendous.
For example: Ordinarily, you may choose the most experienced team member to be the team leader, yet, whilst technically experienced and proficient, this person when tested, may display a very high accountability score and a comparatively low responsibility score. What this tells us us that this person will tend to hold others to account but not be responsible or accountable themselves. The result is a dysfunctional team.
On the opposite end of the scale, another team member may have very strong scores across the board, and have all the traits of the natural team leader, yet their role may be one of a subordinate or a junior. In this case, this team member will do either of two things; they will become disgruntled with the dysfunctional team and lower their expectations in order to fit in, or they will simply leave. Either way, you will lose the best that employee has to offer.
